First Time Homebuyer Program

(Updated 04/10/2013)

Funds are still available for new applicants.
The City of Lee’s Summit was designated as an Entitlement Community under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Annual entitlement funds must be used to benefit low-to-moderate-income persons, address slums and/or blight or address a particular urgent community need (disaster).

The City Council allocated $44,607 in grant funds for the First Time Homebuyer Program for the program year beginning July 1, 2012. Funds are still available for program year 2013.

Grants under the First Time Homebuyer Program will be issued in the maximum amount of $3,000 and will be available to low-to-moderate income individuals or households who are qualified first time homebuyers to be used for:

• Up to 50% of the required down payment not to exceed $3,000
• Reasonable closing costs up to $3,000
• A combination of the above, not to exceed $3,000.

Grants are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.

Income guidelines are based on the Section 8 Low Income Limit (generally 80 percent of the area median household income, adjusted by household size). Eligible households will have total household incomes (from all sources) equal to or less than the most recent income limits as established by HUD as follows (For eligibility, household income is determined based on the anticipated total household gross income to be earned during the 12-month period immediately following the date of application):
