Homeownership is a big commitment that comes with great responsibility and many tough decisions along the way. At EANDC’s Center for Homeownership, we offer a wide range of pre- and post-purchase workshops to help you make informed decisions about if and when you are ready to purchase a home. What’s right for one homeowner may not be right for another, but getting off to a strong start with homebuyer education is the right decision for everyone.

EANDC’s Center for Homeownership is a HUD certified agency where FREE homebuyer education and counseling is available to anyone in the Akron metropolitan area. We will help you set realistic goals and create a plan for sustainable homeownership. Our workshops are lead by certified counselors who will help you get on track and stay there.

Homebuyer education: Pre-purchase education is critical for all prospective homebuyers, especially if it is your first time purchasing a home. This workshop will give you a solid understanding of the home buying process. The group-learning environment allows for discussion and questions around such topics as money and credit management, the mortgage loan process and shopping for a home.

When first-time homebuyers complete this course they are one step closer to qualifying for first-time homebuyer grants.

***** This course is FREE of charge *****

Budgeting: All too often, people think only about saving enough money for the down payment to buy a home. EANDC helps homeowners budget for long-term sustainable homeownership and plan for unexpected home repairs.

Financial Fitness Education: Our Financial Fitness workshop is designed to provide comprehensive preparation for clients seeking to become successful homebuyers. This course provides information on money management and credit issues & repair.

Foreclosure Prevention: Like every community across the country, our community is facing a rising number of foreclosures, which in Akron are concentrated in low-income and minority neighborhoods. EANDC’s Center for Homeownership is dedicated to preserving homeownership by providing foreclosure prevention services. We’ll work with you to analyze your financial situation and help you execute the best possible solution.

Recently, Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) launched the Restoring Stability: A Save the Dream Ohio Initiative, to help an estimated 26,000 families who are at high risk of default or foreclosure due to unemployment.

OHFA has partnered with EANDC and other local housing agencies to distribute the federal funds and help as many unemployed Ohioans as possible.

Through Restoring Stability: A Save the Dream Ohio Initiative, the State of Ohio designed four programs to help homeowners who have a temporary or permanent reduction in income. The four programs are Rescue Payment Assistance (RPA), Partial Mortgage Payment Assistance (PMPA), Mortgage Modification with Principal Reduction (MMPR), and Transition Assistance (TA).

To apply for the program, current homeowners are advised to visit the Restoring Stability website and submit an application for assistance.

Homeowners who do not qualify for Restoring Stability, are strongly encouraged to contact the Center for Homeownership for other work out options that may be available. Other possible workout options may include a loan modification, special forbearance agreement, repayment plans or partial claims

Neighborhood Stabilization Program: East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation will develop 8 units of single family homes which will be affordable to households at or below 50% or below the Area Median Income (AMI).

These homes will be located on scattered sites throughout the City of Akron. We are building eight (8) two-story colonials with basements. The homes will be 3 bedrooms, with one and two-car attached garages, and 2 full bathrooms.
